Privacy

My Save State keeps what you put into it, uses it to run the site, and doesn't sell it, track you around the web, or show ads.

What we keep

• Your account: your email address, your username, and your password, which is stored scrambled (hashed) so nobody, including us, can read it.
• What you add: your logs, ratings and reviews, Want to Play, Loved games, collection, lists, the people you follow, the line about you on your profile, and your settings.
• Steam, if you connect it: your Steam ID and profile link, and from your library each game's name, your total playtime and when you last played it. We only read what Steam shares publicly. Disconnecting Steam deletes all of this.
• Server logs: like most websites, the server notes each request it gets (your IP address, the page, and your browser's name) to keep the site running and stop abuse. These are kept for a few days.

What's public

Your profile and everything you add (your history, reviews, lists, Want to Play, Loved games and collection) can be seen by anyone, the way a Letterboxd profile can. So can your Steam hours on games you have in your collection. Your email address is never shown to anyone.

Cookies and storage

We use one cookie to keep you signed in and one that protects forms from being sent by other sites. If you close the "Make yours" band at the top of a profile, your browser remembers that. That's all: no analytics, no advertising or tracking cookies, and nothing from other companies.

Who else is involved

• Hetzner runs the server the site is on.
• Amazon Web Services sends our emails (confirming your address, resetting your password).
• Backblaze stores our nightly backups, encrypted so only we can read them.
• IGDB (owned by Twitch) provides the game information. Game covers load straight from IGDB's servers, so your browser asks them for the images.
• Steam, only if you connect it: we ask Steam for your public library.

We don't sell your information or share it with anyone else, except if the law requires it.

Emails

We only email you about your account: confirming your address and resetting your password. No newsletters and no marketing.

Deleting your account

In Settings, choose Delete account. Your account and everything in it are deleted right away. Copies in our encrypted backups are deleted as the backups age out, within a year; they're only ever used to restore the site after a problem.

Age

You need to be at least 13 to make an account.
