What is My Save State?
My Save State is a free site for keeping a history of every game you play: log and rate each play, write reviews, keep a Want to Play list and a collection, and follow friends.
Is there something like Letterboxd for video games?
Yes. If you use Letterboxd for movies, My Save State works the same way for games: log each game you play with a rating and a review, keep a list of games you want to play, follow friends, and look back on everything you've played. It also keeps track of the games you own.
Is it free?
Yes. Signing up and everything on the site is free.
What's a log?
A log is one play of a game: when you played it (a year is enough), what you played it on, your rating, how it went (completed, abandoned or paused) and, if you like, a review. All your logs together are your history.
Can I log a game more than once?
Yes. Every play is its own log with its own rating, so a replay never overwrites the first time. Your rating for a game is the one from your most recent play.
Do I need to remember exactly when I played something?
No. Pick the year, or leave it blank if you don't remember. You can add an exact date if you know it.
What's the difference between Want to Play and Collection?
Want to Play is a short list of games you're excited to play next; logging a game takes it off. Your collection is the copies you own, physical or digital, on each platform. Owning a game doesn't log it, and you can log games you never owned.
How do ratings work?
You rate each play from half a star to five stars. A game's rating here is the average of every member's current rating, and each member counts once however many times they played it.
Is my profile public?
Yes. Your profile, history, reviews, Want to Play and collection can be seen by anyone with the link, the way a Letterboxd profile can.
Where does the game information come from?
Game details, covers and release dates come from IGDB. Ratings, reviews and logs come from members here.
Can I import my games from Steam or another site?
Not yet. Imports are planned, and they'll add the games you own to your collection without pretending you played them all today.
